(L-R: Edward Evans, John Kilbride, Pauline Reade, Lesley Ann Downey, Keith Bennett)
Ian Brady and girlfriend Myra Hindley brutally murdered Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey and Edward Evans in the 1960s in the UK. These crimes are referred to as the Moors Murders as this was used as a crime scene and burial ground.
(Police search Saddleworth Moor)
They were caught in 1965 after trying to convince Myra’s brother-in-law David Smith to murder Edward Evans, their last victim. After witnessing Brady murder Evans with an hatchet, and being forced to help with the clean-up, Smith phoned the police and told them everything he’d seen. Brady and Hindley were each sentenced to life in prison. David Smith, a hero of this story, was vilified by the public for his friendship with Brady and Hindley. In addition, Hindley lied, saying she was innocent and Smith was the one who helped Brady commit the crimes. Hindley died in prison in 2002, Brady died earlier this week.

The body of Keith Bennett has never been found, despite the family begging the killers. Keith’s mother tragically passed away a few years ago; his remaining relatives still hope to find him and give him a proper burial. There were rumours that Brady would disclose the location of the body when he died, but that remains to be seen. One has to wonder if Brady even remembered where the boy is buried..
